'The side to beat,' says Jermain Defoe, as Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City close the gap in the Premier League.
As Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City try to draw away from their local opponents, Jermaine Defoe has chosen his favourite to win the Premier League title this season. Chelsea has won seven of its nine league games this season, putting them at the top of the standings with 22 points.
The Blues have been in fine form since Thomas Tuchel took over as manager, and they hammered Norwich City 7-0 on Saturday to maintain their lead at the top of the table. Liverpool, who won the Premier League in 2020, are one point behind Chelsea in second place and are looking to return to their best form after thrashing Manchester United 5-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Manchester City, the defending champions, are one point behind Liverpool and two behind Chelsea, and they also triumphed at the weekend, defeating Brighton at the Amex Stadium. The top three have pulled three points clear of fourth-placed West Ham and five points clear of Brighton, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United, and look likely to fight for the title this season.
Despite the obstacles posed by Chelsea and Liverpool, former England striker Defoe believes Manchester City are the Premier League's 'team to beat' and title favourites.
